These terms cover the use of this site and its calculators. They are short on purpose. The substance is one sentence: the calculators are free, they are provided as they are, and a result you read off the screen is a check or a starting point — not a survey.
CoordCalc publishes browser-based calculators for surveying, coordinates, units and land measurement, together with guides that explain the background. The pages are static files. The calculations run in your browser; nothing you enter is transmitted to or stored on a server, as described in the privacy policy. There is no charge, no registration and no quota.
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the calculators. If you use a calculator as part of your work, these terms apply to that use just as they apply to personal use.
The site and every result it produces are provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. The site does not promise that the calculators are uninterrupted, error-free, or correct for your particular coordinate reference system, datum, epoch or unit convention.
The mathematics is tested. The UTM engine agrees with PROJ to better than a millimetre across a spread of test points, and the reference values used in the developer guide are reproduced from the library itself rather than typed by hand. But a correct formula applied to the wrong assumption — the wrong datum, the wrong foot, the wrong zone — still produces a confidently wrong number, and no website can detect that for you.
Nothing on this site is a survey, a boundary determination, a legal opinion or an engineering certification, and the site is not a substitute for any of them. Anything that governs a boundary, a construction line, a volume to be paid for, or a position to be set out must be verified by a licensed or chartered professional working under the standard that applies to the job. The pages say so on every calculator, and the footer of every page repeats it; that is not a formality.
In particular: a coordinate conversion is only as good as the datum and epoch behind it; an area read from a projected coordinate list is a projected area, not a ground area, and the two differ over large or steep parcels; a unit conversion involving the US survey foot depends on which foot the source document used; and a cut-and-fill volume depends on a surface model that this site never sees.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the site's operator is not liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, arising from the use of, or inability to use, the site or its results — including lost profit, rework, a re-survey, contractual dispute, or the cost of correcting a position that was set out from an unverified figure. This limitation does not exclude liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Embedding a calculator in your own page or intranet with embed=1 is expressly
allowed, on two conditions: keep one visible link back to the tool on the page that hosts it,
and do not alter the embed so that it misstates what the tool does. The
developer guide documents the query-string API, the embed mode
and the window.Geo library; the library may be reused in your own projects under
the same two conditions.
Everything else on the site — the explanatory text, the tables, the worked examples — is © 2026 CoordCalc. Quote it with attribution and a link; do not republish it wholesale.
Pages link out to reference material such as standards and registry lookups where it helps. Those sites are not operated by CoordCalc and this site is not responsible for their content, their availability or their own terms.
Calculators are corrected, added and occasionally removed, and these terms may be updated to match. The date at the top changes when they do. Using the site after a change means you accept the changed terms.
